About Us

Bangladesh Lawyers Cricket Club, in short BLCC, is a first-of-its-kind cricket club comprising of lawyers from Bangladesh as its members who play cricket at an amateur level.

The lawyers from our legal fraternity have always been big cricket enthusiasts and have played the game whenever the opportunity arose. Over the years, Dr. Khaled Hamid Chowdhury has been instrumental in keeping the game alive amongst lawyers. When Barrister Muddasir Hossain approached the international committee of the Lawyers Cricket World Cup (LCWC) in 2014 and confirmed participation of a team from Bangladesh in the 5th edition of LCWC to be held in Brisbane, Australia, unsurprisingly, Dr. Chowdhury was one of the first persons he approached along with Barrister Aneek R Haque, Barrister Mutahar Hossain, and Barrister Muntasir Uddin Ahmed. This set the tone for the launch of BLCC.

The journey, which began as an ambitious dream, soon became a reality courtesy of the collective group effort, hard work, and vision of the above lawyers. Eventually, a squad comprising of 14 lawyers was formed to represent BLCC in the 5th edition of the LCWC. The tour was planned, organized, and arranged in less than 90 days, which seemed impossible at the beginning. Despite the lack of preparation, all 14 lawyers were generous, willing, and showed the mental strength to make the trip down under, knowing fully well the monumental task that lay ahead. The entire team took a leap of faith and flew 8,800 km, believing that this would be the beginning of something wonderful and memorable. And now, the rest is history!

Since 2014, BLCC participated as the Bangladesh A Team in the (a) 6th LCWC held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 2017, (b) the 7th LCWC held in Auckland, New Zealand, in 2019, and (c) the 8th LCWC held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 2023. BLCC also participated in the 1st South Asian Lawyers Cricket Cup (SALCC) held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 2024.

Since its inception, apart from LCWC and SALCC, BLCC has participated in various national cricket tournaments. BLCC became the Champion in the Bangladesh Lawyers Cricket Cup held in 20__. BLCC also regularly participates in the Corporate Amateur Champions League, LCLS Cup, Supreme Court Premier League, and ___.

This journey of BLCC triggered the whole lawyers’ community to get more involved in cricketing activities. After the Brisbane tour in 2014, another lawyers' cricket team by the name Advocate Cricket Club (ACC) was formed under the able leadership of Barrister Mahdin Chowdhury, who spearheaded the bowling department for BLCC in the 5th LCWC. ACC participated as the Bangladesh B Team in the (a) 6th LCWC held in Colombo, Sri Lanka, in 2017, and (b) the 7th LCWC held in Auckland, New Zealand, in 2019. Soon thereafter, another cricket team emerged, namely, Lawyers Cricket Association of Bangladesh (LCAB), under the able leadership of ________. At present, we have a pool of over 80 lawyers who are regularly participating in amateur white ball cricket. This does not take into account the numerous teams that have been playing various tape tennis tournaments of lawyers.

To help BLCC in its World Cup journey, a number of organizations have come forward. We, BLCC, acknowledge their contributions from RAK Ceramics, ENEOS, Ispahani, Justiciars, LCLS South, Hoque and Associates, E-Securities, Avia Marine Ltd, Law Valley, Miray Towel, and Zyesha Group, for their invaluable support.
